Obituary for Karen Smith

Our dear Mother, Karen Ann Irene Vandenhouten Smith, of Thiry Daems, passed away peacefully at her home Wednesday, February 26, 2025, at the age of 82. She was born on July 10, 1942, in Tonet to the late Norman J. and Martha M. (Cravillion) Vandenhouten. She married Robert P. Smith on August 30, 1961. Together they farmed and raised seven children. She was practicing LPN for several years before working for the Bank of Luxemburg. She was a loving mother who always offered valuable advice and support to her children and grandchildren. She was very devoted to her faith. She enjoyed sewing, mending, crocheting, cutting hay, camping, her road trips, playing cards, and our wagon rides to the Frosty Tip.  

Survivors include her seven children, Robert J. "Toby"(Wanda) Smith, Lori (Rick) Hegnet, all of Luxemburg; Annette (Dennis) Kinnard, Carol Smith (special Friend Vaughn) all of Casco; Dan (Julie) Smith, New Franken; Mary (Mark) Wesolowski, Luxemburg; Theresa "Terri" (Brian) Wavrunek, Kewaunee; 21 grandchildren, Sarah, Jamie, Mike, Molly, Bobbie Jo, Richie, Kathy, Cindy, Kyle, Jess, Kodey, Derek, Melanie, Sara, Kyle, Alexis, Marissa, Mariah, McKenna, Patrick and Anthony ; 34 great-grandchildren; two brothers and one sister, Neil (Dawn) Vandenhouten, Milwaukee; Tom Vandenhouten, Chris (Tom) Zellner, New Franken; two sisters-in-law, Nancy Dufek, Nancy Smith, both of Luxemburg; one brother in Law, Bernard (Gerrie) Smith, Green Bay.  

She was preceded in death by her husband Robert; one infant child; her parents; one brother Alan Vandenhouten; one sister-in-law Bertha (Marvin) Villers; one brother-in-law Joesph Smith and many aunts and uncles.
